Microsoft Global Secure Access.

Your VPN is a security risk. There's a better way.

Microsoft Global Secure Access replaces your VPN with identity-aware, Zero Trust network access. Your team reaches the resources they need. Everyone else gets blocked, regardless of where they connect from.

Microsoft Global Secure Access,
Explained Without the Jargon.

Global Secure Access is Microsoft's Security Service Edge product. Your team gets secure, identity-verified access to the internet, Microsoft 365, and private applications. No VPN in the middle.

Identity-Aware Access

Access depends on who you are, what device you're using, and your current risk level. Being connected to a VPN doesn't automatically grant anything.

Works From Anywhere

Your team connects from home, the office, a client site, or a hotel. No VPN client to troubleshoot. No split tunnelling arguments.

Zero Trust by Design

No implicit trust granted based on network location. Every access request is verified against identity, device compliance, and conditional access policy.

VPNs Were Built for a World
That No Longer Exists.

Traditional VPNs assume your users work from a fixed location and connect to an office network. Most businesses moved past that years ago. The VPN model never caught up.

A VPN grants broad network access the moment a user connects. Compromised credentials give an attacker the same access your employees have. VPN appliances also need patching, and unpatched appliances are among the most exploited entry points attackers use.

Global Secure Access applies access at the application level, not the network level. A compromised account can't move laterally across your network because there is no network access to grant.

VPN appliances are high-value targets. Ivanti, Fortinet, Pulse Secure, and Cisco have all had critical VPN vulnerabilities exploited in the wild in recent years. Attackers target them because a successful exploit often means complete network access with no further authentication required.

Traditional VPN Global Secure Access
Access model Network-level, broad access once connected ✓ Application-level, access per resource
Credential compromise ✗ Full network access ✓ Blocked by conditional access
Patching requirement ✗ Appliance patching, often neglected ✓ Microsoft-managed, always current
Remote work experience Slow, unreliable, client troubleshooting ✓ Fast, seamless, no client issues
Visibility Limited, who connected, not what they did ✓ Full session and access logging

Two Products.
One Security Perimeter.

Global Secure Access has two components. Microsoft Entra Internet Access secures your team's internet traffic. Microsoft Entra Private Access replaces your VPN for internal applications. Both run through the same identity and conditional access policies, so your security posture is consistent wherever your team works.

  • Microsoft Entra Internet AccessYour team's internet traffic passes through Microsoft's global network. Web filtering, threat protection, and access policies apply before anything reaches the internet.
  • Microsoft Entra Private AccessReplaces VPN for on-premises applications. Users connect to specific applications through identity-verified tunnels. No broad network access, no lateral movement risk.
  • Conditional access integrationEvery access request runs through your Entra ID conditional access policies. Device compliance, location, sign-in risk, and user risk all factor in before access is granted.
  • Unified traffic loggingAll network traffic lands in the Microsoft Entra admin centre. When something needs investigating, the logs are there. VPN logs end at the tunnel. These don't.
  • Microsoft 365 traffic optimisationM365 traffic goes straight through Microsoft's network. Teams, Exchange, and SharePoint stop being routed through inspection layers that slow them down.

Three Situations Where
GSA Solves a Real Problem.

Remote and Hybrid Teams

Your team works from home, from offices, from client sites. A VPN designed for one office no longer fits the way your business operates. GSA gives everyone consistent, secure access regardless of where they're working.

Businesses Replacing a VPN

Your VPN appliance needs replacing or your provider is pushing a renewal. Before buying more VPN infrastructure, check your Microsoft 365 licensing. For most businesses already on M365, GSA is already included.

Zero Trust Adoption

Your business is building towards Zero Trust and needs network access controls that enforce it. GSA integrates with Entra ID and your existing conditional access policies. No separate security stack required.
